Phonics Program

Phonics Reading: Children are taught to read by blending the letter sounds in regular words, for example ‘P-i-n’ is ‘pin’. Our worksheets include words that are suitable for blending practice using the Phonics groups:

  • Group 1: ‘s, a, t, i, p, n’

  • Group 2: ‘c, k, e, h, r, m, d’

  • Group 3: ‘g, o, u, l, f, b’

When reading words with initial consonants blends, children will be taught to blend the consonants first, for example ‘pl-u-m’ and not ‘p-l-u-m’.

Digraphs: Children will be introduced over 40 letter sounds and 26 letters. This means that the digraphs (where two letters make one sound) are used. It is important for these young learners to blend words which contain digraphs.

Writing: These children will be taught to hear the sounds on words and knowing how to write the appropriate letter(s) for those sounds. Children will get to practice in writing regular words.

Tricky words:  The tricky words’ are keywords that are either phonically irregular, or difficult for these young learners to spell. As a result they will be taught to learnt it by heart.

We want to ensure that the children who have undergone our training are able to read tricky words and phonetically. In the program, these young learners will be taught the many ways to remember the spelling more easily.
